Greetings from Rocky Mountain College!
The Dean of Students Office is sending this newsletter to keep you up-to-date on what will be happening
when you arrive later this month. Please note that the information in the newsletter is for all students at
Rocky and that the orientation they speak of is the General Orientation for all students. You will also be a
part of this great weekend of fun, but we want to remind you that orientation for foreign students is on
October 2 1 and 22, and we hope you will arrive by October 20. A description of the Orientation for
Foreign Students is offered below.
If you are flying, please let Ken Briggs know of your flight itinerary, date and time of arrival, so that he
can pick you up at the airport. His email is briggsk@rockv.edu.
Foreign Student Orientation
Tuesday~, August 21
On the first day, we will get to know each other better, tour the campus and Billings, shop for essentia]s,
learn how to obtain Social Security Cards (necessary for employment of any kind), driver's licences,
obtain mail boxes, and identify the issues you are most concerned about which we ~will discuss the
following day. We'l1 have a nice dinner and have a fun even planned for the evening.
Wednesday, August 22
This day is reserved for addressing your issues of concern and providing you with important information
about immigration and tax regulations that pertain to you. We will also look at the issues involved in
adapting to a different climate, foods, culture, and educational system. We will talk about phone cards
and ways you can stay in touch with family and friends. You will also learn who to go to for any
problems you may encounter.
You will be given your copy of the Guide to Sojouning at Rocky Mountain College which contains all
the information you will need to get a good start and be successful at Rocky.
Thursday, August 23 through Sunday, August 27
You join with all the other new students in the general orientation activities. The theme this year is 'boot
camp,' a 'spoof or joke about military training. In this case, we are just letting you know that orientation
is the time for college students to prepare for success in college. What you learn during the Foreign
Student Orientation and General Orientation will be of great value to you immediately and throughout
your Rocky experience.
Please share this information with your family so they know what you will be doing in the first few days.
